A BEAUTY SECRET. The- beauty Hof = freshness,- though not -of feature, may .be secured by any healthy woman, and it is certain ly'orthstriviig for. ' - -To secure a nice, clear complexion, bathe night and, morning, using -warm ivater and a good soap, which must lbe thoroughly rinsed off before drying. Eat in moderation, avoiding all Jndi gestible foods, strong tea, coffee and alcohol. Keep as cheery and amiable as possible, for nothing causes uglier lines in the face than depression and ill-temper. When washing the hands, rub them over with a bit of lemon, for the juice has a cleansing and softening effect on the skin. Lemon-juice, diluted with an equal quantity of water, is some times used to remove freckles, but for many people this remedy would be to drastic.

IRRIGATION SETTLEMENT. TO THE EDITOR OF THE GUARDIAN. [Newspaper Article] — Swan Hill Guardian and Lake Boga Advocate — 25 June 1914

IRRIGATION SETTLEMENT. TO THE EDITOR OF TIIE lUARDIAN. Sir,-Re your remarks on Mr. Le fake's work- on his block, and what ti is possible to do in the line of fruit grow ing on the Swan Hill flats. I believe he is only doing what others will have to do before very long if they intend to stay here. Much satisfaction is felt. among the farmers for the expressions in your paper on the subject; but I do not thing even you are aware of the manner in which it would affect the Swan Hill flats were 'uch imen not given the assistance th'ey justly deserve. There are enough vacant blocks here now, but still there are men who have confidence in themselves, vet if that confidence should: be broken it spells failure.-I am, &c., FRANCIS --WILSON.

THE NEED OF ENJOYMENT. [Newspaper Article] — Swan Hill Guardian and Lake Boga Advocate — 25 June 1914

THE NEED OF ENJOYMENT. During moments' of restVand re pose, do not think of doing. things, but think iof enjoying things. The man who is always thinking, of do ing things may produce the quantity for a time, but the time'will be short, and the quality will. be" absent entire ly. The best results are always se cured when thoughts of doing things are frequently " .alternated with thoughts, of enjoying things.' The' simplest, the easiest, and the quickest way to recuperate the mind is to think of enjoying things. A- few moments >of..-such thoughts are usu ally .sufficient -to restore full -mental vigor; -liut those. moments must :be given; over completely-to thoughts.of enjoyment., .The doing of things must-be wholly forgotten for the time being, and the mind niust give its all to ,the pleasing picture thiat it has chosen ,to entertain.: _ -

NYAH HALLS. TO TRE EDITOR OF TLUE GtltDIA.. Sir,--The letter appearing in your issue of 18th inst. re--Nyah halls by "subscriber" has 'not been altogether appreciated in this district. His re ference to strife and Nyah as a holl on earth implies a state of -affairs absolutely non-existent. The old hall trouble has been practically dead for many years, and both halls have been freel- used by all csctions of the com munity. _ The present trouble is-1. Owing to the increased population in the dis trict, neither hall provides adequate. accommodation for the large audience that can now be brought together. 2. Both halls are old, and require the expenditure of an amount .on mamn tenance and repairs which Would easily pay interest and sinking fund on the ·ost of an up-to-date hall worthy of the district, and ample for all require ments for some years to coma. .. - There seems to be a general. coh sensus of opinion in the district that' a new:- hall is nocessary,' and that tile time has arr...
