WOMAN MURDERED. Berrigan Sensation. An extraordinary, occurrence is reported as having taken place at "Osborne Park" farmhouse,- three miles from Berrigan last Friday. ■ An intruder entered Mrs. Fox's bedroom and struck her with a tomahawk and pocket-knife. Somehow the room became ignit ed. The inmates of the room were Mrs. Fox, Isabella Fox, aged three years, a dauq-hter, and "Hilda Cowell. By this time Alexander Cowell, who was sleep ing in an adjoining room, came to the victim's assistance and met the man in the passage. A struggle ensued through the kitchen and into the back yard, where blood was bespattered on the wall of the house and on the ground. After a couple of un successful attempts, the girl Hilda escaped from the bedroom ! and took a child with her to Mr. C Fox's house, and informed Mr. H. Deyer, a neighboring farmer, who went to Berrigan for the police. ' Senior-s'erceant: Simpson and Constable M'Rae went out and found the'fire still burning. The sergeant -rescued Mr...

INTERSTATE NEWS & NOTES. AUSTRALIAN TRADE WITH AMERICA. [Newspaper Article] — Tocumwal Guardian and Riverina Echo — 7 November 1913

INTERSTATE" NEWS &- MOTES. « AUSTRALIAN TRADE WITH AMKRICA. The completion of the .pftnama Canal ond the revision of America's tariff combine to give Australian trade with America a phenomenal opening. To advertise our various produce and industries, nnd to take our rightful" place as a depot from which America may draw ample sup plies for her insatiable demands, wc could have no better medium than adequate representation in tho Expo oitlon to be held at San Francisco in 1915. America's vast nnd evcr-incrcasing population must turn to other lands for Its wool and meat; and Austra lia is the natural sourcc of supply. In opening up this vast market, we have no insuperable difficulties to overcome—and wc have everything to gain. Should we lose our opportu nity through parsimony or short sightedness, we will deprive ourselves of one of the greatest aids to our commercial development. , This being the case, . it is strange jthat the importance of fitting repre sentation at the Ex...

SUNLIGHT SOAP. Where it is Made. [Newspaper Article] — Tocumwal Guardian and Riverina Echo — 7 November 1913

SUNLIGHT SOAP. Where it Is Made. While in Sydney recently at tending the annual Press Con ference of the Country Press As sociation, the representative of the "Guardian" had an oppor tunity of inspecting the Sunlight Soap works at Balmain, on the shores of Darling Harbor. - His appended account of the trip gives some faint idea of the mag nitude of the works :— ll was oncc my evil fortune, sonic twenty years ago, to visit a soap factory of the kind that was carricd on in those days, and the memory has been painful to me ever since. At the time I was told it was very foolish busi ness on the part of any manufac turer to allow the miblic to see through Ins works : a terrible example'being that of a manu facturer of edibles who com pletely lost his trade owing to the fact that all the people who saw through his factory- lost—their taste for thosagf§j|liblcs for ever-l, more. So tlia($£although I quite anticipated that my visit to the "Sunlight" works Woifld give me an opportunity of se...
