Dr . Geis , 93 , Professor of Physiological Chemistry in Columbia University , New York , delivered an address , his principal theme being loyalty to the college and its interests . He also spoke of the great aid that the Gettysburg Clubs which were being formed in a number of the cities will be able to give the college . The address was excellent and was received with much applause . The Glee Club rendered a pleasing selection and were compelled to respond to an encore so great was the applause . Gettysburg received the distinction of taking the second honor prize . We can see no reason why we should not go higher and occasionally carry away first honors unless the proper attention is not paid to the oratorical and elocutionary part of the college course . Since at least seventy-five per cent , of our students enter professions that require skill in these lines . This department should receive more attention .
