POULTRY [Newspaper Article] — Farm Press — 1 March 1909

POULTRY LONG CHICKEN SUNS By H . A . Franklin I never yet saw a chicken yard too long , but I have seen a great many that were too small . I never knew chickens to get sick and make trouble when they had plenty of room and plenty of green stuff . It costs something to fence a long run , but it pays . A yard twenty feet wide and two hundred yards long may be plowed and cultivated with horses . If a succession of green stuff is grown , starting in the spring ami rcseeding at different times during the summer , a yard like this will grow stuff enough to almost feed thirty or forty laying hens . Such things as peas and oats may be planted very early in the spring and by having runs to use when wanted , other runs may be closed and different grains and vegetables may be planted in season . A great deal of picking may be had from corn . They may eat off the young stalks and they may let some of them grow up , but in any case the chickens get the benefit . Rape is another good crop to grow...

More than Half a Contury of Success [Newspaper Article] — Farm Press — 1 March 1909

More than Half a Contury of Success The most eloquent praise that couM be given an implement is that it has been on the market for a long period of years , that it has always done its work in thc best possible manner , satisfied the many users , was made of such choice materia ! , and in such a workmanlike manner that it lasted for more than a generation and is still capable of doing good work . This is the enviable reputation of the Empire Grain Drill , manufactured by The American Seeding-Machine Co ., Incorporated , Richmond , Indiana . Mr . L . H . Coocli , Editor of The Practical Farmer , Philadelphia , Pa ., writes : I wish to say that I have used the Empire Drill on my 500 acre farm in Delaware for the past twenty years , at the end of which time it is giving just as satisfactory service as it di < l when new . The money spent on repairs has been so slight that it is hardly worth mentioning . I attribute the fact to two things : First , superior workmanship and cho...
