Yreka, January 26th.— A snow-storm com menced alter dark last night. The ground is covered with a foot of snow in the valley, and is much deeper in the mountains. The btorm still continues with unabated vigor, Petaltjma, January 2Gth.— light rain set in here about 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon, and fell at intervals during the night, accom panied by a high wind. But little rain has fallen tc-day, but the indications continue favorable for rain. A stroDg wind is blowing ; from the southeast, and the weather is cloudy. The rainfall for the season 10.89 inches. Tuesday evening, just before the storm commenced, a miner named Herald and a woman, name unknown, started to go to the Monte Cristo mine, a distance of three miles. The storm caught them and they both lierishfd. The body of the man was found yesterday, but the woman has not been found yet. When the news of their loss reached the mine a young man named Robinson started down the mountain on snowshoes to give the alarm and get help, and on his trip was caught in a snowalide and- buried. The Senate met at 10 A. m., pursuant to adjourn ment, President pro tern. Johnston in the chair. Koll called. Quorum prcsc.it. Journal of last meet ing read and approved Mr. Johsb ton submitted a petition relative to the right of women to administer upon estates. The Committee on Federal Relations recommend ed the passage of Senate concurrent resolutions requesting the establishment of a dead letter office at San Francisco, and new Postoffice building; also, asking the Federal Government to stop the war between Chile and Peru ; also, te protect adopted citizens of the United States in Costa Rica.
