TiE PRESS ON THE NOMINATIONS. O pROBIIILITT THAT GREELEY AND BROWN WILL BE ADOPTED BY THE DEMOCRATIC COyNVE.TJOX. The Cincinnati Convention, in select ing him as its standard-bearer, have not apparently been influenced by a desire to secure for their candidate the en dorsement of the Democratic Conven tion. Charles Francis Adams, Mr. Greeley's chief opponent at Cincinnati, being a statesman of tried powers, would have been much more likely to have re ceived this endorsement than his suc cesftil competitor will be. In truth, we declare ourselves at present unable to perceive any probability that the Cin cinnati ticket of Greeley and Brown will be adopted by the Democratic Conven tien.-[Lancaster (Pa.) Intelligencer. THE CHANCES OF THE DEMOCRACY LARGE LY INCREASED. The Free Press says of the Cincinnati nomination that Greeley is a strong man with whom to demoralize the Republi can party, and that probably the resrtt willl be the defeat of Grant's nomination or election. It considers t...

Heonl0 Jere S. Black Interviewed. IIS OPINIONS UPON TIIE NOHINJATION OF GREELEY AND THE POLITICAL SITUA TION. In this day of anxiety arnd ignorance, while men go about in a questioning Way, striving to get at the drift of coming events, the opinions of such a sagacious man a3 the HIon. Jeremiah S. Black are valuable. This gentleman can be listened to with profit, for it he is not instructive at all times he is sure to be entertaining, having a fine sense of humor and vast stores of informa tion. \Ve therefore.hastened to draw him out as to the political situation when we met at a dinner table the other night. Seated next the "old man eloquent," we said: "Wlell, judge, what do you think of our nomination at Cincinnati ?" ;'Greeley ?" -"Yes, Greeley." "You want my honest opinion 1" "Certainly." "Well, had you raked this world and the two adjacent you could not have found a fitter man to be a candidate or a more unfit one to be a President?. "Why unfit I is he not honest?" "Granted." "...

THE SISM ON'S TRAGEDY., Six Days with a Bullet In Her Brain and Conscious, but Spcechlcss, SCASE OF GREAT INTEREST TO THE MEDI CAL PROFESSION. It is now six days that the bullet fi red from her husband's revolver has laid undisturbed in Alice Simons' brain. The case is wne of unusual interest, and will rank among the peculiarities of medical histoty which now and then occur to astonish the general reader and puzzle the student of affections of the brain, being in, the same category as the world-famous crowbar case of I)r. Biglow of Boston. The pulse is at 60, a circumstance peculiar to injuries and certain diseases of the brain. The functions of the body are naturally and regularly performed, and the breath lug is regular, the sufferer taking long inspirations at intervals as a person would do who is wearied. The skin is about natural, both in temperature and feeling, and the eyes present no unusu al appearance, with the exception of a certain fixidity. The pulse and state of the sk...

Thi Last Hours of J. Wilkes Booth. STATERENT OF THE MAN WHO SHEL TERED HIM. ft, the Editor of the Herald : I saw it. stated in a Washington paper, upon the presentation of my petition by John T. Lewis to Congress for payment for my losses sustained in the burning of my tobacco house and contents by the orders of Colonel Con ger, who commanded the forces that were endeavoring to capture J. Wilkes Booth and D. C. Harod, in April, 1865, "that it would be recollected that Booth and Harod were concealed in this house, and it had to be burned to capture them," leaving the inference, it appears to me, that Booth and Harod were concealed in this house by me or some of my family. If this inference is intended to be made by the editor of said paper, there is nothing more erroneous, and to set the matter right and show that neither I nor any of my family intended in any way to conceal them or was at all appraised or had any suspicion of who these men were, I will make a true statement of the w...
