Lansing, Mich., attributes the falling off in its number of saloons to the bicycle. ' Tex'as this year has devoted 7,433,946 acres to cotton, an increase of nearly ten per cent, over last year. A man in Delaware was recently given ten lashes and set in the pillory vne hour for stealing an umbrella. A new English vessel, named the "Turbinia," equipped with three sepa rate turbines coupled to three screw shafts, has been run at a speed of 38 land miles an hour. An application was recently made to A judge at Clearwater, N. Y., to com mit James Myer to an insane asylum. Myers peculiar delusion was that he was the homeliest man in the world in consequence. Robert AV. Bi.ancharo, the fat boy of Hinsdale, N. THE MUF-RESS : of the rAW, Copyright. 1895. by Robert Ban. CHAPTER XVni. Kenyon was on his way to lunch next day when he met Wentworth at the door. "Goinjr to eat?" asked the latter. "Yes." "Verv well; I'll po with yon. I couldn't stay last nig-ht to have a talk with you over the meeting; but what did you tb'mk of it?" "Well, considering the articles which appeared in the morning, and consid ering also the exhibition I made of my self in attempting to explain the merits of the mine, I think things went off rather smoothly." "So do I. It doesn't strike you that they went off too smoothly, does it?" "What do you mean?" . "I don't know exactly what I mean. I merely wanted to get your opinion about it. You see, I have attended a great many gatherings of this sort, and it struck me there was a certain cut-and-driedness about the meeting. I can't say whether it impressed me favorably or unfavorably, but I noticed it." "I still don't understand what rou mean." ."Well, as a general thing, i...

A glimmer of a smile hovered about th red lips of a girl, a smile hardly perceptible, but giving an effect to her clear complexion, as if a sunbeam had crept into the room and its reflection had lit up her face. KINSLEY GRAPHIC. fclNSLEY, KANSAS CURRENT COMMENT. The chancellor of the university of Georgia recommends the admission of women on terms of full equality with the men. Ex-Secretabt Carlisle will live in Washington, maintain a legal resi dence in Kentucky and practice law in Kew York and Louisville. The New York police commissioners at a recent meeting- unanimously de cided that the so-called boxing matches in that city should be stopped. Reports from the great watermelon fields of Georgia indicate that the crop this season will not exceed 2,000 car loads only a third of the usual average. Queen Victoria, it is said, will con fer the decoration of the new Royal Victorian Order on Consuelo, duchess of Marlborough as a compliment upon American women. The recent Irish fair in New York nested $700,000. If the committee will hold a few more such affairs, as a pa per there suggests, they can buy the green isle from the English.
