HEAD QUARTERS Tenth Military Department, San Francisco, Cal. June 18, 1849. [Orders No. 25.] Very few of the discharged New York Volunteers having availed themselves of the provisions of the instructions of the Secretary of War, as published in Department Orders, No. 4, current series, that order is now republished for the information of all concerned, and notice is now given that without farther instructions from the War Department, transportation home will not be furnished to any of those volunteers who may fail to make their election before the first of September next. Persons desirous of availing themselves of the provisions of the order above referred to, will apply to the senior Quartermaster of the department, who will cause them to be enrolled upon their furnishing him with satisfactory evidence of their discharge from Col Stevenson's Regiment N. At a meeting of the citizens of Coloma and vicinity, held on Wednesday, the 18th July at the residence of Dr. Dye, for the purpose of taking into consideration the nominations made by the mass meeting held at Sacramento city on the 5th inst, the following business was transacted: On motion, Mr. Dye was called to the chair and L W. Hastings appointed secretary. The chair not being fully advised as to the object of the meeting, called upon Mr. Shannon, who stated the object of the meeting as above, and read the proceedings of the mass meeting at Sacramento city ; after which he addressed the meeting at some length, urging the necessity of extending farther notice to the citizens at the different "diggins" in this vicinity, for the election of local officers for this precinct, such as 1st and 2d alcalde, sheriff, &c. Our friends will confer a favor by sending the result of the election in their Precincts as early at possible. We learn that Henry E. Robinson, Esq. has been officially appointed Postmaster for Sacramento city. The office is at present on J. between Front and 2d streets. The news from Europe continues to be of an exciting nature. The whole of Continental Europe seems ready to burst into one general conflagration. There had been a terrible conflict at Dresden, between the red republicans and troops, which had not terminated at last accounts. A correspondent informs us that a party were induced (through representations made that there were immense quantities of gold on the other side of the California mountains in Trucky river) to undertake a journey to that region, but after undergoing great privation and hardship, found nothing that looked like the precious metal.
