JACKSON Auatin, Tex—The Prairie View Panthers won their first champion- (hip in conference history when they defeated the Sam Huston Dragons here today by a acore of 2K-0. The heavy rains that fell the nifht before and intermiiently throughout the game turning the playing field into a quagmire did not atop the furious fighting of both teams, the Dragons anxious to turn in their first confercnce victroy, and the Panthers striving determinedly to keep their clean alate. The score is not indicative of the great defensive fight waged by the Capitol City team which on aeveral occasions by a clever at- tack worked the ball deep into the Panther territory. The victors, while acoring four touchdown*, found the going too tough in the mud, reaorted to atraight football only to have many a play smeared behind the line of scrimmage by the great defensive work of Bur...

DAVENPORT For some time the writer haa planned to publish through the col- umn! of thia paper his selection of an All-American football team composed of Race stars who have achieved fame and glory while playing on the leading college and university teams of the country. We are not unmindful of the fact that the practice of selecting "All" teams has come in for no little rriticism because of the impossi- bility of any one individual seeing •II the players in action during the course of a lifetime, mulh less a season. However, while the num- ber of players of our group who have been outstanding on big white college teams is greater than the "man in the street" imagines, yet It is so comparatively small that our task is not an unusually diffi- cult one and we do not hesitate to offer it for comparison with any other all-time selection of player...

FRIDAY, APRIL 1, 1932. SAN ANTOVIO REGISTER PAGE THREE SPORTS PAGE Gleanings From the Sports World —By— J. D. "FATS" LOWERV, JR. By J. W. LOWERY Circumstances always change condition*. We often wonder why a team looks like a world beater one day and a scrub team the next. When discussing the relative mer- its of teams, as a general rule people do not realize the dif- ferent condi- tions daily un- der which the teams must per- form. For an example, take the outcome of t)|e Lock hart High vs. Douglass Junior High basket ball series. In Lockhart, the Douglass boys wtu not used to a dirt court and lost 40 to 16. In Sr.n Antonio Lockhart was not used to an Indoor court in San An- tonio and lost 29-20 the score not indicating the vast difference be- tween the two teams. When a team, moving from place to place, taking on all comers, and yet continuing to win, you have a really great team. You may have good teams, teams that will beat the average competitor, but great teams win regardless. ...
