i I f ♦ ¥ 4 « 'II I . r, " MYIjES THE 8LASHE11." The Enniskillen Dragoons, an Irish regiment in the KnglUh service, have as grand a rocord as any similar body of men in the world. The time of their formation dates irom 1G88, the year of the English Revolution, when William of Orange drove James II. from the throne of England. The nucleus of the regiment was first formed of young men recruited in Fer- managh, Tyrone and Cavan, and up to the present time contains a ma- jority from those counties, and it is a singular fact, that they make the best and most eflicient cavalrymen in the British service. Their celebrated charges at the Hoyne, Waterloo and Balaklava are matters of history. Their descendants were well represented in the Federal army during our late war, and rode side by sido with Sheridan in many a raid and foray. Hut the most dashing trooper of them all, the boldest and bravest rider that ever sat in saddle or spurred to death with a shout of defiance ringing on his lips, w...

■MlSKiagJ! The Daily Hews. DKMNON, TUESDAY FEB. u. 1S78. Investigation of the El PasoTroub- 1 les. We see t It at Governor Hubbard bus appointed Maj. Jones, of the Fiontier Batt.nllion, as the Texas lepresentative on the committee of three suggested by the government to investigate the late troubles at El Paso. Personally, Maj. Jones is un- objectionable, but in view of the fact that he has made one report al- ready to his Excellency and the country on this subject, and that Federal officers and certain citizcns of El Paso have made other, and conflicting reports to that of Major Jones, and as the people are inter- ested in obtaining the bottom facts on the subject at issue, we think it would have shown better taste on the part of the governor to have named some one else as the State's lepresentative on this committee. A* both his Excellency and Major Jones are committed as vouching the correctness of that report, it cer- tainly does not require the presence of the latter with the c...

C., Feb. 12.— Tb*; letter addressed bv the presi- dent to Attorney-General Devens in relation to the conviction of General Anderson, and read to that officer yesterday, was not intended for im- mediate publication. The fact that the president had written such a let- ter was made known through a sen- ator to whom the piesident, in con- versation, communicated the infor- mation. Although the full text of the letter cannot be obtained at this time, it is safe to say it is compara- tively brief and is somewhat in the spirit of the telegram that was ad- dressed to General Anderson on the 4th inst. by Secretary Sherman, Sen- ator Matthews and Representative Garfield, Hall and White.
