According to the Sept. 17 1986 issue of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NSFAA) newsletter U.S. Senate and House conferees concluded work on the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act Sept. 12. The reauthorization was sign- ed into law on Oct. 17 Arm- strong said. Armstrong cited certain changes as being especially significant to HSU students. According to the NASFAA newsletter the authorized max- imum Pell Grant award amount will be increased to $2300 for 1987-88. The minimum Pell Grant award will continue at $200 for all eligible students unless linear reduction is imposed the newsletter said. Changes in the Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant program (SEOG) will include the reguirement that SEOG fun- ding be usea only for undergr...

Graham said that the academic excellence that is found at HSU is equal to that found at any other small Baptist school Kerry Graham recently won a Sing scholarship given to non- music majors participating in Sing. He said he was very pleas- ed to receive such an award. Graham as an art major said "I was overjoyed to see the old art building bulldozed." Graham said he went through an extremely emotional time when he was about age nine. His father died and at that time Graham wasn't a Christian. Looking back at his salvation experience Graham said "The Lord started changing me and my family. I can't see how I would have made it without Him; that's for sure." Fifteen members make" this year's drill team the largest in years and according to Vicki Alexander instructor of physical education and recrea- tion and sponsor of the drill team the most talented. Along with performing at all home basketball games the Gold Dusters perform at most home soccer games as well as performing at Family Day. They performed yesterday at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the Mall of Abilene doing three routines each time as part of the Mall's celebration of Veteran's Day. Expecting to receive her master's degree in English in May of 1987 75-year-old Tull is looking forward to prospective Job opportunities after her graduation. In 1983 this mother of four came to HSU to begin working on her master's degree. Prior to registering at HSU Tull had audited several classes at McMurry College and had been encouraged by a professor there to go ahead and complete her master's degree studies. Kappa Delta Pi's Fall induction will be Dec. 2 in Moody Center's room 211 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nine HSU students were semi- finalists in the recent NATS Regional Competition and five placed in the competition. NATA the National Associa- tion of Teachers of Singinq sponsored the annual competi- tion for music students from Texas Oklahoma and New Mex- ico.
