The utter, incompetency. of the head of the Telegraph Department was never more' fully exemplified than at the present time, when notices have been posted in every post office in the colony intimating that in consequence of the press, of business the urgent rate has been .totally .'suspended. This state of things has come about despite the per sistent attempts of experienced men to induce Mr Sholl and his equally incom petent Minister to make some sort of preparation for the boom which is now upon us. For many months past the existing telegraph lines have been altogether inadequate to cope with the press of business, which has every, day grown greater. The department has been told thousands of times that with out an additional line to Adelaide it is impossible to cope with the work and yet \ya are no nearer to obtaining this than we were twelve months ago. SOUTH AUSTRALIAN POLITICS. The Premier of N.S.W., Mr. G. H. Reid, telegraphed to Mr. Kingston that the Government proposed to bring the Federal Enabling Bill before Parlia ment-this; session. The Bill provided for ten representatives from each colony which should be treated as one electorate and also proposed to provide that the adjournment of the convention should not be less than sixty days and riot more than ninety days before the final meeting. Mr. Kingston replied : — ' We are pleased to hear your intro duction ; see no objection whatever to ? suggests! modification; each rolony has of c--urse full power to introduce modifications except as regards chief object.'
