July 21.     The second reading of the Education Bill has been carried in the Assembly on a division by twenty-three to fifteen. Sparrow has been committed for trial for fraudulently altering Customs docu- ments. Lieutenant Connor's survey ofthe chan- nels in the Gulf of Carpentaria, discovered by Fahey in November last, has proved them valueless. The captain of a ship has been fined £30 for enticing sailors to desert from an other ship. July 22. The Queensland National Bank has de- clared a dividend of eight per cent. Flour is £1 per ton dearer. Millchester Police Court. JULY 19TH.   (Before C. S. DICKEN Esq., P.M.)   Henry Phillips v Patrick O'Connor Hishon   and W. A. Ackers, — Conspiracy to defraud. Mr. Bowker appeared for the prosecution, Mr.   Carter for the accused.   Mr Bowker stated the case against the accused. He said it was with extreme regret that the responsibility of stating such a charge, rested on him, against two such respectable men, but, even respectable men had been convicted of great crimes, and in that colony a magistrate had been convicted of murder.
