"TOO MANY IRONS IN THE FIRE." TO THE EDITOR OF THE SENTINEL. [Newspaper Article] — Wodonga and Towong Sentinel — 5 December 1885

TO THE EDITOR OF THE SENTINEL Sir ,--Don't you think the good folks of Wodonga are just now attempting to get ahead a little too fast ? What between   the Gold Prospecting business, Atheneum, Show Ground, Upper Murray Railway line, and a few other little items at pre- sent in prospective, I somehow think you have " too many irons in the fire." Gently, sir ; gently. One thing at a time   if you please, or the Government perhaps may ask you if you do not also require a lunatic asylum a hospital for incurables, and a gaol or two. Keep to the original proposition, and find, or endeavour to find, a payable gold-field, for you must well know that if you can discover one   payable claim ether in the alluvial or the reef that a rush of ten or twenty thousand practical diggers would soon take place, the district would be efficiently prospected, and the question settled probably for ever. In the event of success attending your efforts in this direction, ...

VALEDICTORY BANQUET AT BETHANGA TO MR. WILLIAM MITCHELL. [Newspaper Article] — Wodonga and Towong Sentinel — 5 December 1885

VALEDICTORY BANQUET AT BE-   THANGA TO MR. WILLIAM   MIT'CHELL. (BY OUR SPECIAL REPORTER.)   A large and representative assemblage of the residents of Bethanga and the sur- rounding country assembled last Wednes- day evening at Gold's Hotel, the occasion being a presentation and banquet to Mr. William Mitchell upon his leaving the district. In order to give all classes an opportunity to attend, the price of tickets was fixed at the low rate of two shillings and sixpence each. The tables fairly groaned with all the delicacies of the season, and. the most constant theme of conversation amongst the guests was   praise of Mr. Gold's catering, and of the anxious care of the fair nymphs who waited upon the revellers. Mr. Newnan, president of the Wodonga shire, presided,   and Mr. Pooley, jun., occupied the vice- chair. Over thirty gentlemen were pre- sent. After the usual loyal toasts, Mr.   Newnan proposed the ...
