COOROY. Aug 12. Things in the timber trade are now in full swing, those engaged in hauling pine being Messrs. P. Armitage, — i Duke, and M. M'Don nell. Some of the pine goes to Woonibye and some to Brisbane. Several persons are availing themselves of the Exhibition holi days to visit the seaside resort out from Cooroy — I mean Tewantin. Most of the pleasure-seekers de train here and then join Mr. Tait's coach. A drizzling rain fell almost in cessantly last week from Tuesday until Saturday, causing a suspen sion of trade with the timber haul ers. About ri5ins. of rain were registered for the week.

BUDERUM MOUKSiDfeM. akiaMno** — Aug. 12 ^tsetter late than never, and so I take this opportunity of wishing j you, Mr. Editor, every success in your new venture, which I feel sure ?you will meet with if you keep the Chronicib newsy, and deal out fair play through its columns to all and sundry. The first two issues created a good impression in this district. Splendid rains fell here during the past week, having started on Tuesday evening and continued until Friday, much to the disap pointment of manj- of the residents as the concert which was to have taken place that evening had to be postponed until some future' date. Nature has taken advantage of the splendid rains we have had of late, inasmuch as the orange trees are laden with young shoots and blossoms. The present crop is al most at an end. There is, at pres ent, every prospect of a luxuriant spring, and there are great expecta tions this year with regard to the orange trees, as it will be remem bered that last year, owing to th...

DISTRICT NEWS. PALMWOODS. Aug. 13. [Newspaper Article] — Chronicle and North Coast Advertiser — 14 August 1903

^TRlflIW§7 »Y OUR OWN CORRESPONDENTS. PALMWOODS. Aug. 13. We have been having some splendid weather of late, and at the present time our farmers are busy putting- in potato seedlings which were procured from Sydney by the local Fruitgrower's Association. The quantitv obtained in this wav makes a weight of 1 ton 7 cwt, which, divided around, means that a fair acreage will be under potatoes in a very short time. To-day, Mr. J. J. Walker, jnr., and Miss Mackenzie, botn ot our little township, are being united in ho:5' wedlock at Brisbane. I will euuesvour to give a fuller account in next week's issue. By-the-bye, this- makes a total of seven unions for Palmwoods since Christmas, a 'act which speaks well for the pros perity of the district.
