If there is otic thing -which more than ano ther strikes sober working men and employers of labour, .in our Jtiveririe towns, it- is .tho vast amount of time, not to say money, Avhicli is squandered by the roving laborers and many of the artiznns in our bush towns. The pro blem is worth solving — How can leisure time be usefully aiul pleasantly spent, so as to leave men 'lit ami ready for work? It is 110 use in this colony to come the patronising style with our labouring people, many of whom are men of good education ami respect ably connected in tho old country — hut who have not been gifted with the tact, or perhaps chance of rising here in a worldly point of view. The same question has arisen in Eng land since tho adoption of fewer working hours per day, and the increase of wages. A writer. in the Field thus speaks on the point : — It is well known that for years past phil anthropise persons have exhausted their in genuity in endeavouring to furnish the word ing man with better f...
