Grand Domino Matoh. ; :| At the Oxford Hotel, on the Stb inst., was a grand domino match for a champagne dinner between Mr. F. Morris (secretary), Mr. James. Douglass, Town Hall Hotel (treasurer)^ Mr. John Galvin, Mr! G. .Rigg, and Mr, Timothy Rafferty 'Mr. J. Sweetman being umpire, and Mr. William WebBter referee. The contest was very closc between Messrs. Morris and Galvin, and Mr. Morris won by a point. Cruelty to Animals. : ,. ! John Paul was ; charged with 'ill-treating a li'oiise on the -Liverpool Road, Enfield, on- the a th August, as proved by Constable Peacock. Mr. William Johnson Allen deposed that on August 9th, at 4 p.m., he saw John Paul beat ing a horse which was lying down, about the head, and Mr. Allen saw 'blood flowing from the mouth. He said, ' yon are a cruel beast to beat the poor beast about the head.' Mr. W. j. Alien xnen aaaea, -l never saw sucn a cruel affair iujnyJife.' He (witness) further deposed that the blood was gushing out of the poor animal's month and that it was bleeding all over- the face. Constable Peacock deposed he saw the horse in the paddock shortly after wards, and saw no blood or wounds.
