THE FRUITS OF SINCERITY. [Newspaper Article] — Reporter and Illawarra Journal — 3 September 1887

THE '1UITS OF SINCOERITY. So~Iu little time ago, an hlonost old Scotch. man of the George Mlaodonald type", took charge of a Kensington parish for a whilu. and, without any palavor about opiscopa patronago, tried to conduct lhis ministr; on a genuine system of "aiding London OChris. tians " to liva a little moro like tihe ored they professed. Ho told his parishioners of their own sins and needs,.in plain English. Hoe bade the men be manly and honest, and sober, and gentle, and the women be true and faithful and sweet.temperEd, and warned thoin, all round against canoting about reli. glon, and livinlg unfair and unlovely lives, that broughft disoredit on the name they pro. fessod to worship, Alas for that primitive pastor's peace I ITo was slanderod, hlo was tlhwarted, he was libolled, lhe was porsecuted with anonymous letters and cowardly insults; lhe was branded as an atholst, a Sooinian, a rationalist, and overy other theological bad namo in the whole category of pious abuse, He t...

POSSIBLE MILK FAMINE. [Newspaper Article] — Reporter and Illawarra Journal — 3 September 1887

POSSIBLE MILX FAaMINE. (Tunr. above rather startling phraso does not apply to any state: of things either in Illa warra or in Sydney. It is the title of an article which we reprint from one of the great London papers, and tihe contents of which can hardly fail to interest our readers.) In London something like a milk famine is impending. That, at any rate, is the view of one of four leading wholesale firms consulted on the subject. This opinion, however, applies only to milk of an unques tionable quality; with regard to inferior descriptions, vended at cheap rates, there is reason to suppose that the usual expedients will not fail of adding to quantity at the ex pense of quality. The present scarcity is due to continued drought, Agriculturists will have to report how much rain is neces sary to restore their burnt.up pastures to re freshing verdancy. In ordinary seasons the beneficial effects of !eavy showers are dis corniblo in an improvement of the milk supply within forty-eight ho...
