OPENING OF THE ELECTION CAMPAIGN. b A public meeting of the electors of Boroondara was held at the Hawthorn Town Hall on Friday evening u last, to hear an address delivered by the Ron. G. P. o Smith, one of the present representatives of South C Bourke. Mr, James Patterson, the Meayor of Mel bourne, occupied the chair, who, in introdnucing Mr. Smith their old representative, said ho was quite sure they would give him a fair hearing. The hall was crowded in every part. Mr. Smith (who was received with loud and prolonged cheering) said it was some eleven years since he first presented himself as a candidate on that platform, and was returned for the district of South Bourke. They were aware that the electoral. district had been divided into two, and he now presented himself as a candidate for the single seat which had been awarded to Boroondara.
