On tho morn- ing of Manto 7th the ship struck on the precipitous cliffs of Disappoint- ment Island. A heavy sea swept all thc crew overboard. Twelve men, including Captain Thorborn and his sen, were dsowned. The mate. Jabez Peters, worn out with fatigue and1 disappointed with the discovery that the Island was not the one on which the depot was situated, died after ' a fortnight'. The other men stayed for several months On the . island. They then made a canvas boat seven feet, long, and finally reached ' the main Auckland Islands.
