DEATH OF GILBERT THE BUSHRANGER; (From the Herald!.) Yass, Saturday, 8.5 p.m. Trooper Bright, of the Billabong police,- arrived in Yass this evening, and states that senior-constable Hales and three troopers, from information they received, proceeded from Billabong in the direction of one Kelly's, a settler about one mile from Binalong, near Mr. Edgar Beckham's station, near which place they cnceountercd Gilbert and Dunn. After a severe encounter and exchanges of shots, Gilbert was shot dead and Dunn escaped on foot. Con stable King was wounded in the ankle. Gilbert's body is lying in the Binalong lock-up. Dr. Campbell has gone to attend the wounded trooper. No further particulars are yet to hand. Binalong is about twenty-five miles from Yass.

BEN HALL SHOT DEAD. Inquest on his Body. (From the Empire) Forbes, Saturday, 6th, 9 am. Ben Hall was shot yesterday; his body was brought here in the middle of the night, and now lies at the police barracks. The Police Magistrate will hold an inquest this morning. Sub-inspector Davidson, ser- gernt Condell, and four troopers came upon him at his camp yesterday (Friday) morning, between five and six o'clock, in the Billabong Greek. Mr. Davidson and sergeant Condell first fired and hit him. The troopers then fired a volley, every ball, it is believed, hitting him. He fell completely riddled, and died almost im- mediately. Gilbert and Dunn were not with him. The police start at once in search of them, and are hopeful success,

LONDON WOOL REPORT. The "Times" of March 27th. says:—Tlie first series of colonial wool sales of 18G5 commenced on the 2nd instant. They comprised 84,352 bale?, of which 23,054. were Caps wools, (he balance Australian. Ac cording to Messrs. Southey and Sons' report, the soles opened with a moderate improvement on November rites in most descriptions of good qualities, and al though there was some slight fluctuations from day to day, prices on the whole have been firm for really line eorts. Superior Port Phillip clips, though still threc-half pence to two-pence per ib. on May rates, have com manded fullprices as compared with the rates current lately; but o "ing chiefly to the great prevalence of burr, the average quality of these wools are not cquui i.i condition to the shipments of last season.
