"THE DIVINING ROD." [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian — 29 January 1895

"THE DIVINING ROD." Considerable interest is felt in an experiment with the divining rod, made by Mrs. Bennett, wife of the manager of the Shepparton Butter Factory. The directors of the com pany are anxious to secure well water. and Mrs. Bennett, who is said to have succeeded in finding water elsewhere, has marked outtheline which, shesays, the drift follows. The boring rods are on the ground and are to be used at once. As scientists have pronounced against the rod, it should be men tioned that the managers had resolved to bore in any case. and simply allow the first attempt to be made at the spot indicated.

THE PUBLIC GAIN BY COMPETITION. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian — 29 January 1895

THE PUBLIC GAIN.BY COMPETITION. We notice that just now the Life As. surance Societies are pushing their claims for favorable consideration. No doubt the keen competition which exists has some thing to do with the many new and attrac tive forms of policy now being issued; That particularly Conservative institution, the Mutual Life Assurance Society of Victoria, is apparently recognisiog that to keep 'its place in public favor, it is necessary to offer equal, if not superior advantages to its com petitors, and thit Society's New Accumulated Bonus and Pension Schemes, are certainly calculated to place it in the very first rank of progres-ive . life societies, as regards liberal conditions, and forms of assurance.
