COLONIAL POLICY. [Newspaper Article] — Portland Guardian and Normanby General Advertiser — 29 October 1842

COLONIAL POLICY. Tus debate in Parliament most 'interesting to the Australasian Colonies, that we have seen since the commencement of our edito rial labours, was that whichl took place on the meotion of lTortil Stanley, in the Comn Ionsn, tFresolee itself into a comnittec of tihe whole House ; tihe object of which was to enable his Lordship to move three rcso lutions in reference to the financial si tuation of the Colony of South Australia and its future government. We are highly gra tified with the enlightencd views and the li berial and statcsman-like proceedings of tlhe Secretary for the Colonies. The improvement of South Australia must tend, in no ordinary degree, to the advain tage of Portland. A District that is only divided by a river friom that Province, must have many interests in commosi with it; and though Portland will mainly...

TARIFF. [Newspaper Article] — Portland Guardian and Normanby General Advertiser — 5 November 1842

TARIFF. TnE Earl of Ripon, in moving in the Lords the secon'd reading of the tariff bill, made the following statements, which we consider of some'intercst to the colonies in general: • "That the two material articles of raw manufacture upon which the governn;ent pioposed na reduction, were cotton wool and wool, articles which' he admitted were of very greit imrlpoitance.
