Sydney Wool & Strock Journal. A Bi-Weekly Review of the Wool, Fat Stock, and Station Produce Trades. PUBLISHED EVERY TUESDAY AND FRIDAY. FRIDAY, JANUARY 13, 1899. THE WOOL TRADE. SYDNEY, THURSDAY, JAN. 12. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Wool and Stock Journal — 13 January 1899

I Sj)iinej) (Moo! <& | Journal. A Bi-Weekly Review of tt)e Wool, Fat Stock, and Station Produce Trades. POBLISHKD EVKRY ToKSDAY AND FRIDAY. FRIDAY, JANUARY 13, 1899. THE WOOL TRADE. ? SYDNEY, THUHBDAY, JAN. 12. After Jin interval of nearly three weoks auction sales were resumed in this market on the 9th inst,, and continued on the three following days, every selling broker bringing forward a catalogue. The quality of the offerings was quite as good as that generally submitted aftor the' holiday recess, although there was, as usual, a large proportion of faulty, burry, and badly got up lots. In the greasy section New England find southern wools have taken the pride of place so far as price is concerned, and Tasmanian wools have also taken a prominent position amongst the offerings. The wool growers of the tight little island are evidently becoming alive to the excellent markot which exists at their own door, as con signments from that quarter are greater than ever ...

Wu found the market, very lirm at rates current during tlio earlier part of the week' and were thuH enabled to make a most satisfactory clearance. In the greasy seel ion we had no lota of extra merit, the hulk consisting of a useful class of medium wools, the highest pricc wo obtained for greasy being 8*d. which wo secured for three lots, vi/,., DTT/Sp.ings, from Molong. and DR/D. In scoureds we made up to 15J.I for a lino of super clothing, branded Dit\V/\> , scoured by Messrs. Huigh and SonB, at Colli ngwood, which was well got up, and car.efully cla-sed. For the balance of this clip 'wo made 15d for 1st elo, H.?d for pcij, and lid for Iks. Competition throughout the sale was very brisk, and wo were thus enabled to make a very sat^factory elearauce of every hit, except those upon which owners had placed reserves beyond market values. Hill, Clark, and Oo. Fat Pigs.-Since our report of tho 4th instant the market has been very heavily supplied, 2,208 having passed through tho yards, com prised an under :-828 on Friday, 747 on Tuesday! and 633 on Wednesday, included in which were a fair percentage of medium aorta and stores. Baconers : Prime, descriptions were in strong demand on Friday and Tuesday, the 6th and 10th, biddings being very animated, and results of a highly encouraging nature ; a perceptible decline, however, was noticoablo in the plainer sorts. On Wednesday, the 11th, owing to the continued heavy supplies, values for prime quality lowered, the general tone of the market showing a weakening tendency, tho demand) being restricted, anything but prime sorts meeting with very limited competition. Porkers : Supplies have been heavier than re quirements, the result being that values have shown a considerable decline on the previous week's quotations, particularly noticeable in medium and iiulill'orent sorts, ...

Harrison, ,Jones« and Devlini Limited. Fat Calves.-The supply penned this week numbered some 200 head, which proved sullicient for trade requirements. The quality ranged from inferior to extra choice, and the latter sold readily at improved prices, whilst medium and inferior qualities showed no im provement on late quotations. Small prime veulers were scarce and in strong request. We quote extra prime heavy weight yearlings and two year olds 05s to 70s, odd beasts to 100s; prime, 50s to 60s; good, 40s to 46s; medium, 30 to 36s, others from 25s; prime young vealers, 358 to 40s; pood, 25s to 33s, others from ISs to 23s ; ami inferior from 5s and upwards, according to weight, quality, &c. Fat Pigs.-Notwithstanding the fact that the market was lightly supplied last week the number brought forward this week has proved .more than sullicient for requirements, es pecially for porkers of light quality. Maiden Brachers. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Wool and Stock Journal — 13 January 1899

Maiden Bri.chers. Fat Pififi. -Exceedingly heavy supplies liuv como forward during the past week; something over 2,200 have passed through the sale yards during the past three sale days. Friday's market was an exceptionally heavy one, close oh 830 piga were disposed of on that day, being the heaviest number on a Friday for a consider able long time. This largo supply consisted chiefly of light and heavy porkers, which proved to be largely in excess of trade requite ments ; prices, in consequence, showed a big decline for all de.-captions, more so the heavier sorts. I3aconors, however, did not suffer quite so much ; primo weighty sorts remained very firm at lato satisfactory quotations, while lighter descriptions showed but little alter ation. Tuesday's market was not quite ho heavily supplied; about 742 found their way to the yards, the greater portion of which again consisted of porkers ; but buyers, having largo numbers'on hand from recent purchases, were not too anxious to operat...
