INTERSTATE NEWS A. BEEK DRINKERS STRIKE A beer strike is now in progress at Clare, Scuth Australia. The object- ors are asking that "pints" be re * dticed in price from 6d to4cl. Hotel keepers received letters worded thus: ' It is proposed by the committee that the secretary write to each of the publicans of Clare. It is agreed upon by the committee that you be asked to reduce the price of beer to 4d a pint, 3d a "butcher," and 3d a glass. We give publicans of Clare until 7 o'clock on Saturday evening to decide. -J. Thompson, secretary. The hotelkeepers had a consult- ation and decided that as beer drink- ers at Clare were few they could not supply beer at the price asked. They drew up an agreement, under which the first hotel-keeper who broke the compact would be obliged to forfeit £¡0. On Saturday even- ing the strikes did not drink any beer. Dairy Plains Sunday School Anniversary [ The Anniversa y. of the D.iiry Plains Methodist Sunday School was celebrated last Sunday. Services were held afternoon and evening. The Rev. F. Dslbridge B. A. was the preacher in the afternoon and direct- ed his remarks to the younger por- tion of the congregation. Theyoun; j p'ople lis"ened to the address with per'ect attention. Wirth Bros' Circus. After an absence of nearly twp years Wirth Bros. Circus again visited Deloraine on Monday evening anti attracted a fairly large gather-, ing in spite of the threatening leather, the attendance being intimated at about one thousand ' i persons. The Circus arrived by two special trains from Latrobe and no time was lost unloading . the trains erecting'the large tent and getting everything in readiness. Tl e ele phants were engaged hauling the ? vans from th railway to recreation ground to the delight of a number of school children who had assembl ed to witness the proceedings. In the afternoon a numder of of people patronized the Menagerie and wit nessed the large hippotamns. The evening entertainment was well up to the standard.
