mkmoM ^ em Iff _ B > Q / ^ W ^ Jdarrison . \ GROWING ENTHUSIASM AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE . This week is the great corn festival at Lincoln , Nebraska . Numerous prizes are being offered . I am just putting up 200 packages of Oriental poppy seed , choice mixed columbines to go as prizes , and we hope to awaken an enthusiasm among the boys and girls of the state for home adornments . When will young people learn that the farm homes can be made the dearest spot on earth . It should be an earthly paradise with its trees and flowers . WHAT IS EDUCATION ? Last year a sweet girl was disappointed in her grading . She did not stand as well as she expected . It so preyed on her spirits that _ she took poison . Her mother and friends were sent for and they stood around the dying girl . There are thousands who , though they are not killed by this high pressure , are wrecks for life . Does this pay ? Better sound health as a solid foundation for the future than cramming with a lot of plunde...

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING . . [Newspaper Article] — Farmer's Wife — 1 February 1906

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING . . The Lord sent down to this world , one day , An angel to bear to heaven away The earth s most beautiful thing . The angel came to a . beauty rose . Tis the fairest thing , he cried , that grows . To my Lord the flower Ill bring . He plucked the rose with tender hold , Dearer to him than mines of gold , To lay at his Masters feet . On him , ere yet his upward flight , A baby smiled , his eager sight Saw naught more fair or sweet . Beside the rose the smile he p laced , Twere fairer than the flower it graced , So full of trusting love . But now he saw a glowing ray , A mother s love shone oer his way All other light above . I will take them all to my Master s bower , The love , the smile and the beautiful flower . My Lord will choose , he said Ere the angel entered the shining door , _ e looked for the babys smile , it was gone . The beautiful flower was dead , He loked for the baby s smile , it was gone . But the mothers love shone steadily on . A gem of ...

mffimons ^ S U ^^^ f By EgW . ^ J % J [Newspaper Article] — Farmer's Wife — 1 February 1906

mffimons ^ S U ^^^ f By EgW . ^ J % J SUGGESTIONS FOR THE BETWEEN SEASON DAYS . The between season days are invaluable for furbishing up the wardrobe and adding a new gown or two for the early spring needs . The present styles are kind to the remodelling of the passe gown as so many different materials may be combined with it to render it the height of style . The dress which has become soiled about the neck may be cut out and worn with chemisettes , the latter being of a thin washable fabric , such as lawn or Swiss or of a plain wool material or plaid which is in pleasing harmony with the color of the gown . If the latter is used , it may appear also on the sleeve as a deep cuff and in folds about the lower edge of the dress . The effect of this change is that of an entirely new gown . . Another gown shows wear about the top of the skirt . A simple way of remedying this difficulty would be with an applied yoke and front panel of a different material . The idea might be carried out ...

* - ^ BY EDITH >§ r RAYMOND . [Newspaper Article] — Farmer's Wife — 1 February 1906

* - ^ BY EDITH >§ r RAYMOND . CROSSING THE VALLEY . By Louise H . Adams . It was such a little field the wire fence shut in . To save work and time , the tall stumps of pine trees had been used for fence posts and the . wire zigzagged to suit them . In the middle of the field a boy was digging potatoes . . Great potatoes that promised to burst jtheir jackets when cooked , rNear ; the-field , outside the wire fence , stood a ^ oor littl e shack , just a pile of rough boards , some of them with the heavy brown bark still on . Tall pines stood all about it . The boy worked fast , but every time he began a new hill of potatoes he glanced uneasily at the open shack door . Gettin late , he muttered , what ken keep ma ? A few minutes later a tall , thin woman stepped out . She carried an empty bag and a basket . Near the shack a heavy branch was twisted in the fence , holding the wire down to the ground . The woman set her basket near , that , then using it as a gate she hurried...
