BACCALAUREATE _SERfllON . Dr . Valentine based his baccalaureate discourse on 2 Cor . 4 : 18 It was an earnest appeal to the young men to fix in their minds the true perspective of life , and to live so as to realize its great divine ideal . He said in substance : To get an art product right the artist must idealize his work in advance , and pre-arrange it all to a ruling thought . Otherwise it will fail to measure to any divine reality or stand the test of life . The landscape , over which one looks with delight , has its beauty and excellence from its perspective , given by the Divine Artist who has stretched it out and on to its distant bounderies . God has taught us to throw our outlooks and onlooking into this form , to get the divine reality . Our view of life must be one that shall discern and unite all its parts and realities , in their place and relations , in their significance and value , taking it all in , on to its consummation , looking and looking till the great ideal...

JUDGE ASHMANS address to the Y . M . C . A . on Sunday evening gave great satisfaction to the large audience that assembled to hear him . His answers to the business man that the Christian religion is not practical and to the scientist that it is transcendental were exceedingly forceful and convincing . His points were illustrated in a specially apt and interesting way . The fact that it was a layman who presented this argument gave not a little additional force to what was said . The whole service , indeed , was very interesting and impressive . In the singing the solos were excellent and the hymns , in which the whole congregation heartily joined , were inspiring . TO THE ALUMNI and friends of Gettysburg College we bid a cordial welcome . We who are about to join the ranks of the Alumni are sincerely glad to have you present at our commencement exercises , for by your presence you manifest your interest in your Alma Mater and in us . It gives us new courage and life to grasp the h...
