When the lamented Dr. Kane, the Arctic explorer, announced the discov ery of an open Polar Sea, declaring one free from ice, within five hundred miles from the North Pole, his state ment was almost universally scouted. He rcnortcd the diseoverv of a sea whoso mysterious waters were cuuiu and flowing with the regular tidal pulsa tion of the ocean.
