THE CHIEFTAIN. Out in this western country there are a lot of people who are continually finding fault because they are deprived of "society," and this country is so wild and they are giving up so much by coming out here. We know several people who are holding down good fat positions who are always harping in this way, for- one we are weary of hearing this. We came to New Mexico to bet ter our condition, to live, because we wanted a mild climate, and we can find as good society as there is on earth out here in New Mexico, and we did not give up anything to come here and live, and we did not come to hold a fat position, and if in our Dower We are going to sec that some of these growlers quit living off of the taxes raised by the people of New Mexico and go where they can get good society, all of that aort of people are a curse to this territory instead of a benefit.
