NORTHERN TRIBUNE. Odcial Papsr of Cheboygan County. SATURDAY, APRIL 20. 187G. THE HARBOR CHANNEL. There secnu to be a studied effort on tho part of some parties to misrepresent the condition of the. channel, in onr har bor. This is prompted, doubtless, by fell interest of the parties, and the design is to so represent the channel as to pre vent the captains of boats, who are unac quainted with the channel, from attempt ing to come into the river. This is some thing that we think requires lrokingaf ter, tor it is certainly to the Interest of the village that the condition of our har bor should be represented correctly and the effort of those interested in prevent ing other lines of boats stopping here, at Cheboygan, should be counteracted. In the present condition of the channel there is po reason why any boat under 230 feet In length, on the lake routes passing our harbor should not come in if they desired. The channel is now dredged 170 feet wide, and as to depth, a few days since,...

NORTHERN TRIBUNE OQcial Papar of Cheboygan County. SATURDAY. MAY 13, 1870. ENCOURAGE ImiGUATION. The Tribune has at various times spoken of iho advantages to be derived from the encouragement of immigration to this county. . Tlie fact is becoming more generally known that this section is a producing couutry. That almost all kinds of cereals can be successlully and profitably cultivated in our 6oiI,and even now there rrc many farms being cleared up and improved, and cultivated to a limited rxtent, and we heir of no one w ho is dirsatistied with their experiment. On the contrary, so far as we know, those who have settled on lands in this county are perfectly satisfied with their pros pects, and are confident of a successful future. Of course they do not expect to :;ttain this success without labor, nor do we wish to convey the idea abroad that there are no obstacles to be overcome by the settler in opening up and cultivating a farm, bnt we do contend that there are many advantages in ...

NORTHERN TRIBUNE OScIal Paper of Cheboygan County. SATURDAY. MAY 20, 1870. THE IXXPOX2TANCX2 OF CCCI IIOAE3. There are few things which aid in the development of a country more than good roads, The want of them is felt in every newly settled country. , With proper efforts, however, there are very lew counties in the newer portions of the state which could not improve their roads much faster than they do. Cheboygan county is not an exception to this rule. U'e are perfectlywell aware that it is ex tremely difficult-, to make good roads through a dense forest where the sun oau hardly get in to dry off what rain fulls, much less the natural water which, many times, covers the ground. Every uflort should be made to have them as ood as it is possible to make them under the circumstances. This county has had during the past few years, also taking into consideration the amount now ap propriated, quite liberal . assistance from the state. The work done and to be done by the state, will open ...
