Summer fun set at Wilson Wilson High School will run its playground program this summer from June 22 to Aug. 21. Headed by coordinator Dom Catalano, playground personnel will present numerous activities, including everything from dances to strenous physical fitness activities. New to the program thto year is the physical fitness program headed by Vic Cuccla to be presented twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from S-10 p.m. Organized by Larry Houston, head coordinator of Physical Education,- Health and Safety in the L.A. city schools system, the program is designed for athletes who intend to participate in sports next September. Purpose of the program is to get the boys in shape for fall sports in an effort to keep injuries to a minimum. Any Wilson student coming back next year is eligible for this excellent program. Summer swim classes open at ES pool Swimming Instructions during the summer for non-swim-mers, as well as advanced swimmers will be offered at the El Sere no Fool, 4721 Klamath St, it was announced this week by Michael C. Cronin, senior aquatics director for the city recreation and parks department . The “Learn to Swim’* sessions, consisting of 10 one-half hour lessons, Monday through Friday, will be available to youngsters 7 to 17 yean of age. Hie first "Learn to Swim” Mass will begin on Monday, June 29, with registration starting on Monday, June 22. In discussing the “Learn to Swim” lessons, Cronin said that parents are asked to accompany their children on registration day. No fees will be charged for the lessons, other than the regular admission fee to the pool, he said. Cronin also reported that special classes in lifesaving, synchronized swimming, diving and adult swimming would be conducted at the El Serene Pool during the aummer. Reveal plans for 40 acre site in Ravine CCNA—Tentative plans for developing 40 acres of Chavez Ravine for public recreation were unveiled Monday before the city council by William Frederickson, manager of the city parks department. The display which Frederickson showed the council indicated that the 40 acres have been graded into two different elevations with an old abandoned school down In a hollow be. tween two sections. Voter turnout here 66% GOP, 51% Democrats As predicted by Registrar of Voters Ben Hite, Republicans turned out a greater precentage of their registered voters than did the Democrats in June’s primary elections. In the local 29th Congressional District, 66.4% of the GOP faithful went to the polls to give Charles Farrington a narrow 333 vote victory over fellow Republican Stan Stevenson. Final vote figures this week, Including absentee ballots, show Farrington with 13,345 votes to Stevenson’s 13,012. Absentee ballots favored Stevenson 302 to 267, but were not enough to make any difference in the outcome of the race for the GOP nomination. Farrington now faces Democrat incumbent George Brown Jr. in the November general elections. 51% OF DEMOS Brown received 52,595 Democrat votes, representing 51.1% of the district’s registered Democrats. New VA hospital on drawing board Contract negotiations for architectural drawings of the new 1040-bed Los Angeles Veterans Hospital to serve El Sereno and other east side communities have been completed. The hospital is scheduled to be built on the site of Hazard Park at Zonal and San Pablo Streets in the shadow of General Hospital. The announcement came from Congressman Ed Roybal who said the Los Angeles architectural engineering firm of Albert C. Martin &amp; Associates has been chosen to prepare working plans for the huge medical facility, with a target date of March 1965 set to finish the detailed drawings and specifications. Construction bids will then go out the next month, with contract awards scheduled for June and completion of the 10-story structure expected by the end of 1967.
