- Friday March 15 1940 THE McMURRY WAR WHOOP Pace Three The Arrow Head BY CLYDE WOOD I went n strolling out toward the lair of the Wildcats the other day. From the tales I'd heard 1 was rather reluctant to walk up on the Christians lest the impact from one of the Cats' flocks send mo a sprawlin'. Hut finally I got my nerve up and decided to look over the next year's crop of footballers. Wellv they weren't half rough. Out of a dozen or so backs I saw only two capable of earning a letter at McMurry. They were Thurman (Tugboat) Jones who was about the best back in the conference last year and W. F. (Chubby) James who is fair but nothing extra. After wateching the backs for a while I began to vis- ualize our Braves knocking the Wildcats off by a pretty healthy margin come next fall. But just about that time I decided to stroll down to the other end of the field and watch the linemen. It was there that I got an eyeful. Well could I understand why the Cats walloped us by four touchdowns l...

FRIDAY APRIL 12 1940 THE McMURRY WAR WHOOP Pace Three About Our Sports- BY E1.DRK1KJE TROTT Down down they po and where they'll stop nobody knows. Well perhaps its hnrdly thnt bnd but it is rather dlseournginir to tnkc n two name loss after ridlnp; crest of three straight victories. Hut the Indians have plenty of consolation The .458 batting average of David Williams. And vo can't leave out the two pitchers Bill Gray and Al Simmons who cut down for nn average of ten stiikcouts to the Rame. While rending after Eddie Biiotz. sports columnist I rnn n- Cross n little story thnt contained that thing called humnn interest. Cyril Walker who once bent out Bobby Jones for the Open Golf Championship could in 1S124 show n bank account for 100000 dollars. Working as a caddy on a golf course n few days ago he made a dolalr and ten cents. Barely enough for him to live on. The great pity of it all is that he isn't the only one. When a great man does hit bottom he generally hits in big way. Black e...
