The Closer Settlement Amend ment Bill which the Minister for Lands has succeeded in getting through the Committee stage in the Legislative Assembly intro duces some important changes in the Closer Settlement policy of the State. The Bill may be divided- into three parts. The first tackles the big and very difficult problem of bringing a larger proportion of the land suitable for cultivation into use for that purpose. Momolong School Picnic The 5th annual picnic in con nection with the Momolong pub lic school was held on the ground on Wednesday, 17th September, under ideal conditions. The weather was perfect and the large crowd present had a very enjoy able day. A lengthy, programme of sports was carried out, and in addition to the ordinary prizes a large number of books were dis tributed to the scholars.
