BATTLE OF LA BASSE. ARTILLERY DUELS. | Very heavy snow has fallen in France, whero the feature of Mon j day's operations was a series of livoly artillery duels along the greater part of the front. The' following official commu nique was issued in Paris at mid night on Monday " The Germans this morning first violently assaulted our trenches north of the Bethune La Basaee road, in North-Eastern France, but were repulsed, leaving numerous dead. The German in fnntry at Beaumont, Hamel, and North Albert (towns south of Arras), attempted a surprize, but v/ers forced to fly, abandoning ex plosives.
