ON PRUDES. [Newspaper Article] — Wagga Wagga Advertiser — 3 November 1875

ON PRUDES. Oar fair readers might read this with profit:—The modesty of the tnie gentlewoman- shines through her lifo and conduct ;'1 severe in her native purity,'' like the • lustre of the diamond, translucent from within. The prnde is all voneor—a studied demeanour, a precise phraseology. Her overicon. sciousness never slumbers. . That she is always and constantly thinking of self is apparent to every eyo. She has generally a slow, slightly languid utterance, with a sighing accompani ment, but tolerably distinct. The sigh is soinotimes accompanied by a practised upturning eyes at the men tion, of her favourite preaehors—the Rev. Mr.' Morphino Volvet or Mr. Phineas Howler. A prude was once asked if she had road Jane Eyre. ":Oh, no, no ! " was the sanctimonious reply. " How can you ? Never would I read any book so wicked." Credulous innocent! I hope she never roads anything worse. You can never talk her into lieolthy, spon taneous freedom, or into the forgetting for a moment of that...
