Shellharbor S. N. Company [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 19 August 1893

Shellharto? S IT- Company. The thirty-fifth half-yearly meeting of the aboveuamed company was held in the Temperance Hall, Shellharbor, on Saturday last, when a satisfactory report was read. It stated that the steamship Peterborough is well-found and in first-class order, haying lately undergone her usual halt-yearly over haul and Government inspection. With reference to the trade, there had been no groat increase during the half-year, although the profits are far in excess of those of the corresponding six months of last year. .Owing to a delay in securing land for a store at Nelligen, the trade at that port has not increased as expected, but, as this matter has now been settled and a good store in course of erection, better results from the Braidwood district are hoped for. Tlie steamer has made 23 trips each to Shellhavbour and Ullndulla durins the half-y'ear. The report was adopted and a vote of tlianks to tho Chairman closed the meeting. Mr. Walter Donghis, of Inveralochy, near...

The Export of Butter. [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 19 August 1893

The Esport of Butter A writer in the Illuwarra Mercury of Thursday last appeals strongly on behalf of the butter export movement. He says : — The practicability of ex porting and of tho butter reaching its destination in » satisfactory condition have long ago been conclusively demon strated ; what is now wanted is a more widespread interest in the matter among the dairymen themselves. Many are content to reap the benefit of tbe increased prices and pocket their cheques with a grim chuckle, but they care not a toss of the proverbial button for the scheme that has been of such pecuniary advantage, and do not pause to consider the necessity of uniting as one man to further the export trade in every possible way. Fully 80 per cent, of the dairymen in the colony have experienced the benefits of co- operation through their connection with butter factories. Cannot they combine and act with an enterprising and generous spirit on the export question 1 They cannot get over the fact that their...

"The Sea-side Folly" RAILWAY AND STEAMSHIP TRAFFIC. [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 19 August 1893

'The Sea-side Polly.' RAILWAY AND STEAMSHIP TRAFFIC. The Sydney correspondent of the Bega Standard, referring to the Rail way Commissioners' report for the year ended 30th June last, says : — ' The non-paying lines are headed by the Kiama, the sea-side folly, but the extent of the loss on this line is not clearly snown. in ii uuhui b uuacu *jl uji^iu ductive railways, witl) a total length of 974 miles, there is a loss of nearly £320,000. There lias been a lot of stir in the city papers of late about putting a low haulage rate on coal from the Illawarra mines, so as to minimise the advantage that the Metropolitan Coal Company has in being so near the city. Those who remember the late John Biggar's advo cacy of the sen -side line to Illawarra will call to mind that the haulage of coal was one of the great sources of profit. Except when the big strike was on, and the Commissioners had to carry their own coal no matter what it cost, there has never boen a ton of coal carried from Illawa...

The Yarrajmmmaa Bridge. NO TENDER YET ACCEPTED. Mr. P. H. Morton, M.L.A., is in receipt of the following letter, which throws some new light oh the subject.
