DEATH OF MR JOHN SPOTSWOOD   On Saturday night Mr John Spots- wood died at his residence, 34 Steve- dore street, aged 79 years. He had been attended by Dr Maclean for some weeks. The funeral was con- ducted on Monday by Mr Lonsdale, Rev. F. Lynch officiating at the grave. The pall-bearers were Messers H. Booker, A. Ballard, R. B.Barnes and   J.J. . Purtle. Mr Spotswood was a native of Tasmania and came here as an infant.   He had resided in the town practically all his life, though, during the New Zealand rush he ran a vessel between Victoria, Tasmania and New Zealand, After settling down to shore work, he went into the ballast trade and retired     from it in the eighties. Since then he had lived a quiet retired life and was one of the party of pioneers who   met almostt daily in the gardens and discussed old times.
