The second reading of the Land Acts Amendment 'Bill was carried yesterday even ing, by 34 to 7, or including- pairs 30 to !), a good working majority of 27. In the mino rity were a few leading men, — Parkes, Far nell, Sutherland, Bawden, (member for the Clarence, representing more population and wealth than any other member), and Driver, (Chairman of Committees). Parkes did not speak during- the four nights debate.. Farnell made up for the silence of his colleagues by a very long speech on Wednesday ; in which lie-attacked, not so much the bill bnfore the House; as the policy of the present law, free selection before survey.
