CUDAL. [Newspaper Article] — Molong Express and Western District Advertiser — 14 April 1894

CUDAL. It s strange that a team cannot be found to take the conceit out of our footballers, for they are goiug blue-mouldy for a cut at something. Was it Chance? [Newspaper Article] — Molong Express and Western District Advertiser — 14 April 1894

Was it Chance? [Foe thk ' Express ' ] Bx ' Unohoo.' It was in the summer of 18 — that I settled in Greatly, a small township out west. It was thought by some to be destined to be come a thtiving town, but it has not yet become so. I bought the stock-in-trade of ' the only, storekeeper in the place. I also bought hi* store, but this could hardly be reckoned worth anything, s:- dilapidated was it. I had saved a little money while in a situation in Sydney, but I was determined to try the country. Whether I did not feel strong enough for the stiuggle m the city I will not say, but I inclined to try the coun try. Besides I wanted to take a life partner in the shape of a wife. For common senue I will not yield that she whom 1 had chosen was inferior to any, and she thought we should do better iu the country with out own store thau iu the city, paying a heavy reut which would almost absorb the profits. The work that had to he done about that new place was immense. I worked with a . will to...

TOPICS OF THE WEEK. [Newspaper Article] — Molong Express and Western District Advertiser — 14 April 1894

TOPICS OF THE WEEK. I JUDGlNfl'-y the annual reportof the Committee of t he Molong Debating Society, t hat litileinsti tui ion does not seem to have 'caught oh,' as' the Yankees pithily say. It is not vety difficult to discern the cause or to explain it. The reason why the Debating Society has not flourished is principally because the average native youth carea very little for anything that compels hard study or requires much prepaiatiou or sustained mental strain. We Hay the average native, for it would not be just to say all natives are alike iu this respect. The native takes a keen interest in cricket, horse-racing, football, and lawn tennis. He will devour every line of an account of a punching match. He can tell you Slavin's fighting weight, and also the exact amount of stones and pounds scaled by Jackson iu his last pugilistic contest. He can tell you how 'Jim the Slogger' was beat hv ' JBili the Slasher,' or had a draw vith ' Dick the Dodger.' He can give you the day, and the...

But as they may require to search a long time before they find one sufficiently rich to claim the & OVERNMENT - REWARD - OF - £1QO0 They may find it necessary to economize, and in order that their money may go as far as possible, and the way to do so is to buy their Goods at the H::;-, CHEAPEST STORE, And that Store, it is.
