RAIL VERSUS MOTOR Quite an acute problem is developing in lh«s^ transport ques tion at the present time on account of the competition between the motor lorries and the railway. It is asserted by the agents of the motor lorries that they will carry freight at 1 24 per cent, less than, the railways will transport to Goulburn. This may not apply to all classes of freight, but it"is certain that during the past few months great trides have been taken towards increasing the efficiency of motor uriage. At first the loading was principally from Sydney to the country, but as the service stabilised, back loading has been offered in fairly large quantities. The service is becoming quite a complete one, for now many distant centres, such as Newcastle, Lithgow, Orange, Goulburn and many othtrs, have recognised time tables. The first question which naturally suggests itself is how they can carry goods more cheaply in small quantities over bad roads by ...
