The Western Champion. Vita sine literi[?] [?] est. BLACKALL, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 18, 1880. [Newspaper Article] — The Western Champion — 18 August 1880

®he ttetqft Vitn itne Uteri* mwt at, BLAGKALL, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 18,1880. . THE result of the late race meeting at Tambo is another proof that the best! racing and the most lionest running is ! not always secured by giving large snms of money as prices. It has been con tended, with a good show of reason, that by offering large prizes horses' Bre attracted from a distance, and good Mood is introduced into the district; while the townspeople are benefitted by the money spent by trainers, jockeys, and btngere-on employed by the owners of horses nominated. Taking as an example' the recent meetings held in the district what do we find ? All the horses en tered for the iinportaut handicaps were owned by residents in the district, the one exception being the nomination of a stranger named MoKKNNA. This man brings with him a performing horse, a...

His army is being daily reinforced. SIMLA, August 15. Ayonb Khan has advanced from Ko karan towards Caudahar, and has now commenced the regular siege of the city. The troops are-drawn up principally in front of the position held by Generals Burrowes and Primrose, who are doing everything to ensure the safety of the garrison. LONDON, August 13. There are daily increasing indications of renewed Fenian activity in Ireland. It is feared that the outrage in Cork Harbor is only the forernnner of other acts of violence.
