We publish on the first page of this paper the addressx>f the State Central Committee to-the Republicans of Pennsylvania. Its brevity ' reconftnends it to the reade?, and its zeal in advocating the claims of Judge Williams for the Supreme Bench is commendable. Mr. Greeley, in the Tribune of July 30, regrets that Judge Sharswood'a record of thirty years ago js brought forward to count agrfinst him. We regret, with Mr. Greeley, that any man should have an unpleasant record, and thatitshould be necessary to unearth it on. an occasion like this; but, for the State-Bighta men of 30 and 60 ^ rears ago we have no respect. The sum total of that doctrine was to put a State above a community of States of which it made but one. We shall never vote for any man who held to such narrow and destructive doctrines until be brings forth Jruits meet for repentancS. No man who accepts a nomination from a Copperhead Convention, at this stage of the game, gives evidence of such repentance. A...

A Sad Story.—The Watertown Reformer gives the details of a sad chapter in the recent disaster on Lake Ontario. Among the passengers of the steamer Wisconsinburned near Cape-Vincent, was a Mr. Chisholm, from Canadaon hiB way to Missouriin company with his wife and six children.- He was a man about fifty-five years oldtoad bought a farm in the State to which, he was traveling, and was moving with his family and goods. • When the fire broke out he was sitting on deck|but his wife and children had retired for the night.
