Our reporters have frequently called the attention of soldiers and the public to the infamous practice which prevails in this and other cities of drugging volunteers, for the purpose of stealing their money. It Ts frightful to think of the number of careless soldiers in this city, in Washington, and in New York, who are thus victimized, and it is amazing that alter all the warnings which have been given through the press, so many fresh cases occur every day. The soldiers, particularly those who have served a long time in the field and who have re-enlisted, appear to be almost as reckless, in many instances, as sailors just off a three years' cruise, and they fall an easy prey to any sharper who chooses to follow them up. In many cases, as in that of Hackett, now being investigated by the coroner, death results from the machinations of these villains, and in hundreds of other instances sickness and disgrace are the concomitants.
