THE BOOK ISLAND ARGUS, TUESDAW APRIL 15, 1890. TIIE DAILY ARGUS JOHN W. POTTCK. Tuesday, April 15, 1890. Thh Schuyler county democratic con ventlon is called for Hay 19 Lb, to nominate county officers and select delegates to the state, congressional and senatorial conventions. , If township elections indicate anything when taken collectively. and candid politicians admit tbey do, the result of last week's election in Indiana is a decided black-eye to the Harrison administration. In summing up the democratic gains in Indiana it is ascertained that while a year ago the parties were nearly evenly divided in the number of trustees elected, the democrats this year will have 150 more than the republicans. The figures also show that the democrats have carried the state by from 15,000 to 20.000 majority. Carry the news to Benny I Statistics seem to show that in most countries insanity is on the increase. Ac cording to the investigation of Dr. Garnier, an eminent French physician, this incre...

I have before me, at this moment, a letter and circulars from, Mr. Charles Rich Johnson, making queer proposals to me regarding a forthcoming work of his. It is a biography of the Millionaire Men and Women, Dead and Living, of America. It will cost 40,000 to issue the book, but as every millionaire will naturally want a few, and as they will cost $50 per set, there can be no risk in printing it. Besides, the subscribers are all financially sound. The letter goes on to state that I am on the list and asks my cordial co-operation. ;I will be willing to co-operate if it should le the sense of the other millionaires that this step is advisable. I have always said, and sa...

THE -BOCK ISLAND AKGUS, THURSDAY, APBIL 17, 1S90. TIIE DAILY ARGUS JOHN W. POTTER. Thursday, April 17, 1890. Supervisor Montgomery is said to be the latest republican aspirant for senatorial honors in Igington township. The question will soon arise "are there any prominent republicans in Edgington who are not candidates for the state senate?" The United Stales senate has ratified the Montana election fraud by seating the two bogus senators, and every republican member who voted to seat them is smirched with the obliquy that dishonesty courts. The democrats or the county board have no reason to complain of their treatment by Chairman Smith. lie honored them with the chairmanships o't the two moat important committees finance and poor and gave them a fair representation all the way through. It was supposed that Supervisor Kerr, being Mr. Smith's opponent for the chairmanship, would be given the first place on the finance committee, but Supervisor Wil son's long and efficient services ...
