In Effect It Repeals Present Tim ber and Stone Act—Right to Re move Timber to Be Sold for What It Is Worth-Lacey Will Oppose Change | n Present Laws Washington, Nov. 13.—Senator Hans broough has introduced a bill which by implication repeals the timber and stone act, under which land is now acquired at $2.50 an acre regard lees of its real value. The measure is intend ed to cure defects in existing laws, to stop speculation in public timber lands and put an end to the frauds which have recently grown into a natiohl questiou. It was referred to the com mittee on public lands, of which the author is chairman. The secretary of the interior is au thorized, under the new bill to make examinations and estimates relative to the quantity and value of timber and stone on the public lands and to sell the right to dispose of the same in quantities as may seem advisable to the highest bidders.
