from Dowagiac, Mich. Mr. Stroup for 0?e3nbepcnbcnt Friday, Skftkmbek 14, 1900. The total list of dead at Galves ton, Texas, will exceed 7,000. New York democrats nominated John IS. Stanchfield, of Chemung, for governor. He defeated Coler by a majority of 140 in the conven tion. Wharton Barker, the mid-road populist candidate, was greeted at Indianapolis by an audience of fif teen people, lie left the state disgusted. Mrs. Kid McCoy says that her husband got $1 00,000 for letting Corbett knock him out. Mrs. Jim Corbett says that her husband got $50,000 for doing the knocking out. These ladies seem to be just about as truthful as one would expect the wives of two such "gent's" to be. The democtats of New York have nominated .their state ticket and now the long advertised quarrel between Hill and Croker will get a rest. As Hill's law partner was nominated for governor, Hill ought to be pleased. And as Croker's forces nominated him, of course Tammany is pleased. WHAT MAINE'S VOTK MKANS....
