The method most practiced through out the country Is the pickle of lime and salt, but even in this there is noenetagreement iw to the. pro portions to he uetl. The following is one of the formulas um.1: Take one bushel unpacked lime and eight quarts salt to sixty-flvu gallons Of , water. Slack the lime with a por tion of the water, then add the bal ance of the water and salt. Stir it, and when well settled and cold draw oft the clear . pickle into the , preserving cask to the .depth of fif-, tren inches and put in as many eggs . as the pickle will cover; at the same time pour in sonic pickle that is a little niiky, so that the fine lime par ticles floating in it may close the' pores in the sliclN. Continue in tliis way a-every lot of eggs is added, and n it put in lime enough to settle in a thick sedi ment lit the botto...
