my 2 OOD WIN'S WBBKLY. B always be relied upon. We believe that it will H be such a journal under Mr. Lippman's manage- H ment and hence again congratulate the journal, Bh the city and the state. K HAMILTON AND THIS CAMPAIGN. B As the campaign comes on apace, it would B be good for all Americans to re-read the life of B ' Alexander Hamilton. After the close of the great B j war for Ave years the country drifted, impotent B ' for good, without cohesion, a mere assemblage of B independent States; so poor that affairs grew IB j ,1 worse and worse year by year, torn by jealousies, B, j I with no fixed policlos, often on the brink of civil B i war, and altogether the scorn of Europe. B ' i It was a condition which threatened to end in B total anarchy. B Then Alexander Hamilton determined to pick B up the tang.ed and raveled threads of the helpless B gcvernment and out of them weave a fabric of B ; stability out of the chaos to create a nation. OOODWIN'8 WEEKLY. 3 Wffi them many of the summer flowers; the chill has at last gong out of the air and the city swings In Her russet colored franje as lovely as a Salt Lake June bride. Save a few hot days, and there cannot be a great many this year, Salt Lake will be a very winsome place up to almost Christmas. Mountains, lake, river,, valley all combine to com plete the charm of the city. All the clouds have gone out of the sky, the old dawns, and sunsets have returned, and where the sparrows will let them, the larks and robins are holding morning and evening musicales sweet as were sung in the garden before Eve made a discord by eating that apple. PROGRESS IN THE EXPOSITION. All visitors to the St. Louis Exposition agree that it is the very finest ever held; some assert that it excels in magnificence all the others com bined. We suspect that is true. Great praise is I given the men who have worked the display up to its present point of excellence, and that is just, but there is a...

GOODWIN'S WBEKLY. 5 SH Uhe Hliance Ng Full of fcupegoul Heuth Ng Urouhle jfor Ftijr. To lit ic j? in General. T'he announcement in these columns a week ago that there was a prospective alliance between the forces of T. Kearns and the Cahister-Ander-son political aeronauts was the source of consid erable aiid varied speculation among local politic ians. The general impression was, from certain landmarks which are familiar to those who have studied the astute methods of Mr. Kearns and his able political overseers, that a combination of that nature had already beeen effected. The frionds of Mr. Sutherland were quite fiery, when they had learned the news, in their animad versions anent Mr. Callister and Twin Anderson. Some of them, many of whom were formerly sup porters of Callister in his forlorn hope, went so mr as to state that unless he and the Fussy will make an unequivocal denial of the proposed po litical copartnership, they will actively oppose the Twins in the coming state conv...

GOODWIN'S WKBKL.Y- 7 WM J. DONNAN REAVIS AND HIS SYSTEM. Anyone who keeps an observant eye on con ditions in Salt Lake cannot have failed to notice that the city is just now in the swing of an in cipient building boom. People who have been away for a few months are filled with surprise upon rotmn lo note that in some disti'icts where, a short time before, there were only a few scat tered residences, numerous new and 'modern houses are now in evidence and that in almost every instance they are occupied. Strangers have frequently been heard to comment of late on the fact that in some portions of the city there are whole streets of houses, all looking as if they had just been completed. This condition is due to several causes, but probably the most Important, outside of the fact that the average Salt Laker is fairly prosper ous, is that the citizens have constantly had brought before them the advantage of owning their own homes ,and have been shown how tMs can be done easily by a man e...
