THE HEREFORD BRAKD se tf :or B. -tf >nt iSt fci* a tp r- ■tf d. TO REMOVE SHOPS. Amarillo to Lose Santa Fe Shops at An Early Date—Lack of Water the Cause. According to reports of a semi- official nature reaching this city this week, the Santa Fe shops will shortly be removed from Amarillo to Canyon City. Rumors of this move have been in circulation for a long time, and time and again they have been denied by the Amarillo people. This time, howevej, the report romes from a most authoritative source, and according to this report there is little room left for doubt as to the Santa Fe's intention in the matter. The primary cause assigned for the removal of the shops from Amarillo is said to be the lack of sufficient water at that place. For the past two months the Santa Fe has been hauling from one-half to two train loads of water from Canyon City to Amarillo to meet the demands at the latter place, and as Canyon City possesses an abundance of water this difficulty will be entirely r...

The Hereford Brand Vol. 7 HEREFORD. TEXAS. JANUARY lO. I9O0 No. 48 Best Policy Yet We have pursued with success the policy of selling good and honest goods at a dose mar- gin of profit, thereby increasing our volume of business, almost double. We would candidly ask one and all if it would not be poor policy for us to ask big prices now? We would boldly and emphatically say~we will not do the latter, but will pursue with vigor our former plans and do all in our power that is legitimate to increase the volume of our business for 1908 by just and upright dealings with all who visit our place. If the vol- ume of our business is increased, as a matter of fact, we can yet sell goods on a smaller margin of profit. So our great plans for 1908 is increase in business; decrease in profits. We have one of the best equipped Furniture and Undertaking Plants in Texas. We take no back seat with anyone. We want you to feel that this is yours and at your call, we will promptly obey. THE HEREFORD BRAND ENJOINS PROHIBITION. Beer House at Amarillo Files In- junction Suit in Judge Brown- ing's Court. The Anti-prohibitionists thru the medium of the Amarillo Beer and lee Company filed an injunction suit against the publishers of the Amar- illo Herald asking that the paper be restrained from publishing the order of the Commissioners' Court declar- ing the result of the recent prohibi- tion election in Potter county. The company prays the court to restrain the further publication until the adjudication of a contest by some duly qualified person can be instituted upon the following grounds : The plaintiff's claim that, though there were 300 names on the petition presented to the court asking for an election, there were 153 signers who had not paid their poll taxes; That school trustees, road over- seers and aldermen were officers in ths election, which rendered it illegal; That a number of voters were intimidated by influential citizens of Amarillo and prevented from ca...
