CRIMINAL COURT, HOBART-TOWN, Thursday, August 9, 1827. Joseph James Johnson was charged with feloniously   embezzling a check for L.18, given by Mr. Sorell to the prisoner, being the amount of an account due to Mr. Thomas Atkinson, by whom the prisoner was employed to collect money.   Verdict - Guilty. John Jones was found guilty of stealing a pair of boots and a pair of shoes from Israel Hyams. Spyers Godson was tried for forging a promissory note for the     sum of L37, 17s. 6d. with intent to defraud Mr. John Risely.   Mr. M. Steele, whose servant the prisoner had been, knew the hand-   writing, and other witnesses acquainted with M. Risely's hand-   writing stated it was not his. Mr Rowlands, counsel for the pri- soner objected that the information charged the signature as Risely, whereas in the bill it was Risby.
